MELBOURNE, Feb 19 AAP - A Melbourne man accused of killing a suburban solicitor whodisappeared two years ago appeared briefly in court today.

Fifty-three-year-old Keith William Allan was last seen by a work associate at his AvondaleHeights law firm in Melbourne's inner north-west on May 28, 2000.

The next day, Sudo Cavkic, now 34, was intercepted driving Mr Allan's car and was laterfound guilty on a weapons charge.

After a two-year investigation, Cavkic, of Delahey in Melbourne's north-west, appearedin Melbourne Magistrates Court charged with murder.

An out-of-sessions hearing last night was told police had matched Mr Allan's DNA withblood found on the pants, socks and shoes of Cavkic the day he was first apprehended.

The hearing was also told a shovel on the car's rear seat and a mattock found in theboot had traces of fresh soil on their blades.

Cavkic made no application for bail and was remanded in custody to reappear in thesame court on May 27.

He has not been required to enter a plea.
