Vic: At least two years jail for baby killer
A young Melbourne man who killed his infant son by squeezing him has been jailed for
at least two years.
Nineteen-year-old JEFFREY PHILLIP THOMPSON had pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of
six-week-old JORDAN THOMPSON.
Supreme Court Justice MURRAY KELLAM has imposed a maximum sentence of five-and-a-half
years, with a non-parole term of two years.
The court had heard baby JORDAN died from a ruptured liver on August the 21st last
year at the St Kilda flat THOMPSON shared with his de facto, the child's mother.
The judge says he's satisfied THOMPSON vented his anger and frustration on the child
by squeezing him very tight after an argument with the mother.
The judge says he accepts THOMPSON is remorseful and that at the time he had no idea
of the consequences of his actions.
